Gov. Andrew Cuomo has directed the State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to offer help in investigating what's alleged to be an anti-semitic attack that happened over the weekend at Syracuse University.

It comes after SU's Department of Public Safety says that somebody reportedly threw an egg at a group of students from a vehicle around 1 a.m. Saturday while shouting anti-semitic remarks near the corner of Waverly and University avenues.

No injuries were reported, according to the university's bias incident report.

At this time, the public safety department says they have little information to go on to track down the perpetrators or the vehicle involved.

“Although we have no way of knowing just yet whether the perpetrators are affiliated with our university, one thing is certain, this kind of hate is not welcome in our community. We appreciate the students reporting this incident right away as it gives us a better chance of identifying those responsible,” says DPS Chief Bobby Maldonado.

In a statement Tuesday, the governor said, "I am outraged to learn that students at Syracuse University became the latest target of what is now a pattern of vile anti-semitic incidents in our state. I want to make clear to the Jewish community across New York that these cowardly acts of hate are not reflective of our values."

In 2019, the university saw a spat of racist and anti-semitic bias incidents that led to campus-wide protests and a scathing report issued by former Attorney General Loretta Lynch critical of the school's handling of the situation.
