If you build it, they will come. The Izzo sisters, two high school lacrosse All-Americans from Central New York, take me to their own field of dreams where their lacrosse memories began.

What You Need To Know

  • Abby is still undecided on what she wants to study at Harvard when she attends next fall

  • Kate and Abby credit their on-field connection to playing together for countless hours in the backyard

  • The two often get mistaken for twins on the field. Kate says it's because they know what each other is thinking without much conversation

"We destoned this whole field." said Abby. “We all during practice came out here and we walked around and picked up all the stones for practice, and there’s just a lot of memories here, and it’s really significant to us as a team."

For the girls, 2020 has been a difficult year, especially for Abby, the senior. She had hoped her last season would see a section and state title for Auburn, but that hope was dashed when the coronavirus canceled spring sports. Now, she's hoping to get one more shot at a section title.

"Because it’s my senior year, I want to put my all into this season, but it’s definitely more motivation because we had it out to beat F-M,” said Abby. “We really want to win because we’ve lost to them like three years in a row in the final championship."

And there’s a chance these two might get a shot at that section title, because both Kate and Abby have a special connection; one developed by blood lines.

"Me and Abby, we kind of have this sisterly connection." Kate said. "We’ve played together so long that, we kind of just know each other. We know what we are going to do."

"We have such a good relationship. Competitively we push each other so much." added Abby. "And we are pretty close in age, we don’t have that different of a skill set."

That skill set is headed to Harvard with Abby starting next fall and Kate one year after. And while there’s some debate on whether they’ll be roommates in a couple years, (though the perk of doubling their wardrobe is a bonus according to the sisters), the two admit they’ll miss each other while they're apart.

"I’m going to be all alone, so it’ll be strange being on the team without her." said Kate. "We’ve always played together. But I think once we are united back at Harvard, it’ll be fun.”
