Local hospitals are feeling the effects of COVID-19, particularly among their employees.

16 staff members at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse have tested positive for COVID-19. Seven at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, and four at Crouse, have also tested positive.

Staff at each hospital say the way COVID-19 has infected people, from symptoms to severity, was not what was initially expected.  Spectrum News was told the Crouse cases were all contracted outside the hospital. It's unclear how the others were infected.

Some employees at Upstate were traveling, but Upstate's CEO says it’s inevitable that more employees will get COVID-19, which could jeopardize patient care.

All three hospitals are concerned about available supplies, but are monitoring them closely.
