While much of society seems to be paused, projects here in the City of Rome are moving forward; Projects deemed "essential" by the state, that is.

Many efforts are in the works, from Air City Lofts which will boast 84 apartments to a new Cold Point location.

"Last week, Cold Point started the construction of their 50,000 square foot manufacturing facility," said Rome Mayor Jacqueline Izzo.

Some projects may need to pause due to a new order from the Governor, stopping non-essential construction work. One effort that is considered essential is the work at DeWitt Clinton Apartments.

"If anybody hasn't been down there, they should go take a look. It's beautiful. They are on track to open in June. So no slow down there," said Izzo. "Most of the construction is done now. They're working on the interior."

Izzo said she's pleased with where the city is at right now, but hopes people will take social distancing seriously so the success can continue and not cause any more delays.

"It's extremely important that we don't become complacent because the virus is here, and we really are making some strides, we think, with the social distancing and people being home," she said.

Izzo has issued a Local Emergency Order closing basketball courts, playgrounds, their skate park and other recreational areas to help enforce social distancing.
