The man accused of killing a 12-year-old boy in 2018 was found not guilty.
The jury reached a verdict on Tuesday in the case against 20-year-old Jahanen Pizarro. He was accused of pulling the trigger and killing 12-year-old James Springer more than a year ago.
The decision came after jurors spent the day reviewing multiple pieces of video evidence.
Springer was shot in an open crowd in Syracuse's Washington Square neighborhood in October 2018. However, police have said Springer was not the intended target. Pizarro was one of three men charged in connection with the killing.
Family of the victim reacted emotionally; saying there’s no justice yet.
“We’re taking it day-by-day,” said James Springer’s uncle John Springer. “If anybody knows anything, please let my family be in peace. We just lost my uncle same day we lost my nephew. Stop the violence, stop doing this.”
The shooting is believed to have been organized by Albert Pinet, who sought revenge after getting hurt during a fight. Pinet has since admitted to his involvement and faces 12 years in prison.
A third man, 23-year-old Anthony Rodriguez is also charged in connection with Springer's murder. He is believed to be the getaway driver.
