Former Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney announced she’ll be running to reclaim the seat she lost during the 2018 Election.
Tenney, who narrowly lost to Democrat Anthony Brindisi last year says she felt the time was right to join the race.
"I think that right now, I've been kind of watching what's been happening in D.C., what's happening in our community and I just decided it was really time to jump in the race, to make sure we take the seat back," Tenney said.
She and Brindisi both acknowledged the importance of concentrating on the issues of their constituents.
In a district that has historically voted red, the ongoing conversations on a potential impeachment of President Trump could have an impact on the upcoming race. The 22nd overwhelmingly supported Trump’s campaign in 2016.
Currently, Representative Brindisi says he is not supporting impeachment, citing the need for further research into potential misconduct.
Despite Brindisi’s stance, Tenney believes the call for impeachment could positively impact her candidacy.
But it’s not a guarantee that Tenney will have the chance at a rematch with Brindisi.
She joins a Republican primary field of Steve Cornwell, George Phillips and Franklin Sager.
