Last week’s warm spell didn’t do much to slow down color change! In fact color is exploding across the Adirondacks, Thousand Islands region, and Catskills.
The northern portion of the Adirondack Park can expect vibrant, near peak color this weekend like the image above from Horseshoe Lake in Piercefield, NY.
Similar color can be found around Keene Valley, North Elba, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake region this weekend as well.
While color isn’t as vibrant in the southern Adirondacks, over 50% of the leaves have changed across most of Hamilton, Herkimer and Fulton county.
Depending on which part of the Catskills you visit this weekend, you’ll view near peak color like the shot above from Sullivan county, or 50% color change in places like Tannersville, Hunter, and down toward Phoenicia.
The greater Capital Region is seeing some color change, although it’s modest at best. While most areas are seeing only a 15-20% change, some of the hill-towns outside of Albany are seeing up to a 35% change.
Generally less than 30% change has occurred across the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes Region, Western New York, Lower Hudson Valley, NYC region and Long Island.
Some nice color is beginning to develop across Vermont, especially across the higher terrain. You may even see some near peak/peak color this weekend across parts of the Green Mountains.
Moderate color is also being reported across the mountains of western Maine, with low color for eastern sections.
While showers will be possible by the end of Saturday across the northern half of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, the day will not be a washout. Sunday will be much cooler, but completely dry across the northeast.
As always, if you have pictures of foliage you have to share, we’d love to see them! Please share them with us on Facebook, Twitter, or send to ryan.finn@charter.com.
