One person is dead after an evening house fire in Ithaca.

According to Ithaca Police, crews were called to 409 East Buffalo Street around 9:25 p.m. Monday for a reported house fire.

Firefighters observed heavy fire coming from the back of the three-story, three-family home.

Firefighters entered the building and found a victim inside on the first floor. Crews attempted life-saving measures to save the victim but their efforts were unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was living in the building and no one else was found inside.

It took 35 firefighters to bring the blaze under control by midnight.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
