Peter Koscinski's love of the Boilermaker came about several years ago.
"My wife worked in the Utica Psych Center years ago, and she asked me if I wanted to give water at Madison-Miller. I said, ‘Sure, why not?’ I wasn’t too cool about it but it was fantastic," said Peter Koscinski of Barneveld. "Then I got hooked on Boilermaker and here I am 45 years later. I love this place."
Koscinski has been volunteering at the Boilermaker for more than two decades.
"They call me just a couple days of the year just to hand out bibs, and I just love it."
He’s not just a volunteer. Koscinski says he's been running the 15K for 25 years, and trains with the Kuyahoora Kickers in Newport all year long.
"In the middle of February we call it ‘The Beer and Chili Run’, and it’s a 10K run, and you drink bet and you eat chili afterwards. It’s a 10K. It’s fantastic," he said.
His favorite part of the Boilermaker festivities?
"It’s the people. It’s all the friends you see, all the people that come in from out of town. It’s just the greatest feeling."
Koscinski is running the 15K again this year, but he says next year he may "graduate" to the 5K.
