A Utica man accused in the shooting death of a teenager last summer has pleaded guilty.
Jorge Campos admitted to first-degree manslaughter during a court appearance on Monday to answer to charged in the death of 17-year-old Stefan Medina.
Medina was shot and killed on Elizabeth Street in Utica back in August.
Campos is accepting a plea offer of 23 years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
The defense attorney says Campos feels remorse.
“He's saddened by this whole thing,” said defense attorney John Raspante. “He never set out that day to harm anybody. He was in fear. It was a group, a gang, there were getting chased -- he and his friends, and he was scared but it's undisputed that he did draw first. He did fire first."
Campos will be officially sentenced on May 24th.
