Syracuse's new Police Chief says an internal re-organization is underway.
Kenton Buckner fielded questions at the Thursday Morning Roundtable. He wants to see more diversity in the police force, more spanish speaking officers, and more training for his officers.
Buckner says it's all an effort to improve relations across the city.
"The first pillar of the 21st century policing model is trust and legitimacy,” said Buckner. “People won't trust or legitimize you if they don't feel you have credibility or the right to rule over them and to enforce the law. So, I have to make sure that we're doing business the right way and that the officers are supported when they're right and also that they're held accountable when they misstep."
Chief Buckner says once the reorganization is complete, he plans to hold several public forums to get the word out to the public.
