It's a memorial that will last a lifetime.

'I Apologize Foundation' and the 'Onondaga Earth Corps' planted three trees Saturday in honor of victims who lost their lives to gun violence in Syracuse.

The trees were planted in locations where shrines existed.

Family members of the victims were there to help in the planting.

Organizers say the trees are a more appropriate way to remember victims for many years to come.

"Friends and stuff like that come there when the families are not there...They are the ones who basically put like the marijuana paraphernalia, liquor bottles and all that stuff there. When I brought this idea to them, they were like, 'You know what? Do it.' They want to see that their memorial site of their loved one that lost their life actually be honored in a true way," said Rashawn Sullivan, I Apologize Foundation founder.

Organizers also hope the memorial will be a reminder of the importance to ending gun violence.
