The New York State Fair is adding a sensory-friendly room and sensory-friendly hours to this year's event.
The fair announced Friday that the sensory room will be located inside the Wegmans Art and Home Center, and will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. It will feature soft music and lighting, weighted lap pads, bean bag chairs and other amenities for those with anxiety, autism and other neurodivergences.
“We’re always striving to make The Fair more inclusive and accessible for everyone," State Fair Director Julie LaFave said. "As part of our commitment to making The Fair more accessible, we’ve worked with KultureCity and are proud to have been certified as a Sensory Friendly Fair."
On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the fair will have a sensory-friendly day from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. A number of Midway rides will run without lights, and sounds and music will be reduced.
The fair runs from Aug. 21-Sept. 2.
