New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday toured storm damage in the city of Rome after a devastating tornado touched down on the region Tuesday afternoon, following a week of multiple confirmed tornados and dozens of tornado warnings across the state.

One person is dead in the village of Canastota after storms slammed the region Tuesday. The victim's identity has not yet been released.

3. California Rep. Schiff calls on Biden to drop out of the race

“Joe Biden has been one of the most consequential presidents in our nation's history, and his lifetime of service as a Senator, a Vice President, and now as President has made our country better. But our nation is at a crossroads. A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November," said Schiff in a statement shared with Spectrum News.

4. DNC delays virtual roll call to nominate Biden to August as House Dems hold off on protest letter

A letter circulating among some House Democrats that expressed concerns about a plan to swiftly cement President Joe Biden’s place as the party’s nominee in July, well ahead of the party’s in-person convention, will not be sent to the Democratic National Committee “at this time,” a spokesperson for Rep. Jared Huffman, D-Calif., told Spectrum News. 

5. What to expect on Day 3 of the Republican convention

The Republican National Convention enters its third day on Wednesday and will be capped off with a speech by the party's nominee for vice president, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, according to sources familiar. Vance will be introduced by his wife Usha Chilukuri Vance, a corporate lawyer who has clerked for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.

Big technology stocks are dropping again Wednesday, hurt by worries about potentially worsening trade tensions with China. That's dragging market indexes to their worst day in months, but conditions may be less discouraging underneath the surface, and nearly as many U.S. stocks are rising as falling.
