One person is dead in the village of Canastota after storms slammed the region Tuesday.
The victim's identity has not yet been released.
Two tornadoes in Central New York have been confirmed from Monday's storms, in Virgil in Cortland County and a radar-confirmed tornado in the city of Rome.
A National Weather Service team will be out in Rome today to survey the area. State, county and local officials have established shelters.
This comes as thousands deal with outages and utility crews work to turn back on the lights. As of Wednesday morning, National Grid's outage map had approximately 27,000 people without power in Central New York. NYSEG's outage map indicated approximately 8,000 more outages in the Southern Tier on Wednesday morning.
The Rome Police Department said Wednesday morning on social media that "the no unnecessary travel protocol" was still in effect due to downed wires and trees and even collapsed buildings.
"There are still numerous road closures throughout the City," a Facebook post read. "Should you need to travel, and you approach an intersection that is barricaded, respect the barricade and do not pass it."
