Cortland has a new paint job supporting Black Lives Matter. The mural was created by local artists Monday night with help from community members.

City lawmakers approved the artwork, similar to other street paintings across the country. The plans came together in just one week.

"Any reaction is a continuation of the conversation, like I was saying before, it might be uncomfortable but it's definitely a much-needed conversation that we need to have," said local artist Crystal Lyon.

Organizers hope more murals can be painted at the intersection in the future.
