State police said two people were killed and multiple people injured in a serious crash that occurred Wednesday morning on Interstate 90 eastbound between exits 25 and 24.

A tractor trailer and five other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to state police. Authorities responded before 8 a.m.

The crash blocked traffic for hours, with all eastbound traffic diverted to Exit 25. State police reopened the eastbound lanes between exits 25 and 24 at around 2:30 p.m.

According to state police, the crash occurred when Larousse Desrosiers, 53, of Boston, Mass., the driver of a Amazon Prime tractor trailer, was unable to avoid traffic that had slowed due to congestion and struck five passenger vehicles.

Brian M. Harper, 33, of Rotterdam, died at the scene when his vehicle was struck by the tractor trailer, troopers said.

The tractor trailer came to rest after colliding with a Volkswagen, which caused both vehicles to catch fire, police said. The driver of the Volkswagen who was pronounced dead at the scene was identified Friday as Courtney E. Mahar, 26, of Cobleskill, according to police. and has not yet been identified.

Desrosiers was not injured, and impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash, though the investigation was still pending, troopers said.

Another motorist, James G. Fox, 50, of Virginia Beach, Va., was injured in the crash and listed in critical condition in Albany Medical Center.

Three other people who were injured and taken to hospitals were expected to survive, police said.

The cause of the crash and any possible charges are pending further investigation. State police ask that any witnesses contact Investigator Matthew Spickler at 518-724-7565.
