A Capital Region soccer star has earned a spot on a U.S. national team.
Claire Hutton, a Bethlehem High School product, was named to the under-17 U.S. national team Monday. The midfielder went on hiatus from the Bethlehem program last season to focus on making the national team, and the move looks to have paid off, as she’s on the 20-woman roster named by Coach Natalia Astrain.

Hutton and the team have less than two weeks until their first game, and will start training in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this week; the Americans start the CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship — beginning with a stretch of three games in five days in the Dominican Republic — on April 23, with the first match against Grenada. The U.S. under-17 team has won the last two CONCACAF crowns.
