Hidden throughout Saratoga’s public parks and trails is "Saratoga gold," or 300 authentic Saratoga racehorse shoes.
The Doty family was on the hunt at Spring Run Trail.
"I'm feeling pretty good. I'm feeling pretty good. I've got my good luck charm Maclan,” said Laura Doty. "I've walked these trails for the past couple of years since I've lived in Saratoga. But since this started, I've kind of gotten a little obsessed with it. So I'm doing between five and six miles a day, looking for a horseshoe."
The horseshoes have been worn by racehorses, and if you find one, it's yours.
Ten-month-old Maclan might be the youngest prize winner. He found one in High Rock Park with his dad.
Doty and her family say there's joy in the journey, not just the destination. The adventure is getting them out and about in nature more, exercising while exploring Saratoga.
But the real fun for the Dotys seems to be the time they're spending searching for the prize together. When Doty finally found one, she was ecstatic.
"The adrenaline was pumping through my veins. I could feel that the horseshoe was close,” said Doty. “Now it feels amazing. I've been looking for a long time. It will be proudly displayed at my house. Whether it's from the residents that live here or the people that are coming here, everyone's looking for a good time, for an adventure, and this is definitely one."
In the midst of a successful first year with the program, they're looking ahead to the future. They're looking to grow and find more sponsors to help out.
