If you're familiar with the Saratoga area and love music, you've probably heard of Caffe Lena. The folk club has been around for more than 50 years. Jorja Roman has more about where they're hosting this summer's performances while their historic home gets a makeover.

SARATOGA, N.Y. -- Whether it’s the atmosphere, the musicians, or the history, Caffe Lena is a must-visit venue in the Spa City.

"People come early in their careers and learn to do their thing and connect with the audience and become household names. It's the longest running folk club in the country. It opened in 1960 and it's been in continuous operation ever since," said Sarah Craig the executive director of Caffe Lena. "There are a lot of people in Saratoga who have come to visit here or who have come to live here because of the musical offerings at Caffe Lena. It’s just a part of Saratoga’s story and you can’t really do Saratoga without going to Caffe Lena."

The famed folk club is midway through a $1.5 million renovation project that began last winter.

"Stopping operation isn't an option for us," Craig said.

So, Caffe Lena hit the road and set up shop about a mile from their historic location.

"We're at The Grove every Friday and Saturday night," Craig said.

The performances will continue at The Grove throughout the summer until their home of more than 55 years is ready to impress again.

"It's a wonderful venue that presents folk music, but also other lots of music like jazz, blues, lots of singers and songwriters," said Craig.

It may be hard to recreate a place with such rich history.

"We brought our own furniture over and our own little table tents and sugar bowls. People come here and it has a little bit of a Caffe Lena feel to them even though it's this incredibly beautiful elegant setting," said Craig.

But audiences will attend Caffe Lena shows no matter where they're performed because it's the music that keeps them coming back.

"One thing that’s very characteristic of our shows is our performers are just really bright, deeply engaged, creative people and they love to tell stories," said Craig.
