It's not only an exciting meet at the race course, but right down the street SPAC is celebrating fifty years of music and dance. The New York City Ballet was the first performance on stage and they still visit the spa city each year. Jorja Roman has more on the iconic company.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- For the last 50 years, the New York City Ballet has brought their pointe shoes and pirouettes to Saratoga.

"It's always nice for me to come here," said Sara Mearns, a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. "Here is just so refreshing to be on stage and see trees and sky and hear birds chirping. You just feel like you have a lot of space and you can breathe.”

Dancer Sara Mearns has been a part of almost 13 years of ballet on this stage, but marking the milestone of SPAC turning 50 makes this tour special.

"For me, it’s really exciting because I feel like we’re now a part of history. Just to imagine they were performing on this stage 50 years ago and now I’m performing the roles that they did. I get kind of emotional about those types of things because I never thought I would be here right now doing this," Mearns said.

These dedicated dancers will never stop giving audiences a performance of a lifetime, for many years to come.

"Expect amazing dancing, amazing ballets, and lots of energy. We have such a huge range of repertory and diversity. New York City Ballet to me is the greatest ballet company in the world," said Mearns.
