Two people are dead after a house explosion in the town of Hurley, in Ulster County.

New York State Police say it happened around noon Wednesday. Troopers responded to reports of the explosion, finding the house leveled and on fire.

Ralph Brueckner, 75, and Cheryl Hathaway, 58, were killed as a result of the explosion.

An official investigation determined the cause of the explosion was accidential – a significant amount of propane that leaked into the residence over an extended period of time, State Police said Friday.

The explosion prompted a response from multiple Ulster County fire departments, state police, the sheriff's office and other departments. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the NYSP's Kingston bureau at (845) 338-1702.
