While an arrest has been made in one of two fatal shootings in Albany this week, the latest shooting incident injured a woman Thursday night.

Albany Police announced Friday afternoon that a 17-year-old from Albany was arrested Thursday in connection with Wednesday afternoon's shooting death of Nyjawuan Thomas, 21 of Troy. Police say that, due to the suspect's age, he will not be identified publicly.

Late Thursday night, police responded to Colonie Street in the area of Lark and North Swan streets shortly before 11 p.m., upon reports of a shooting. Soon after that, police said, a 35-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the head appeared at the Arbor Hill fire station. She was treated by firefighters and taken to Albany Medical Center.

There are currently no suspects identified.

Police are still investigating, meanwhile, after a second shooting from Wednesday's series of incidents turned fatal.

A 23-year-old Albany man, identified as Eddie Richardson, died as a result of being shot late Wednesday night in the area of Second Avenue and Grandview Terrace, according to police. He was hit in the torso and later died at Albany Medical Center.

It was the sixth shooting incident in the city Wednesday; earlier in the afternoon, Thomas died after being shot near South Pearl Street and Morton Avenue. Police Chief Eric Hawkins said it started with a chase that led to a crash, and ended with Thomas being shot multiple times in the torso.

Shortly after that, another shooting occurred in the area of First and Quail streets. Two people were shot there, including an elderly woman who was hit in the neck by a stray bullet while driving in the area. She was listed in critical condition.

A man was also shot in the arm at that location. His injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

The violence then spilled into the evening, with shootings on Ontario Street; on Clinton Street, near Second Avenue; on First and Lark streets; and the fatal shooting at Second Avenue and Grandview Terrace.

In the Ontario Street shooting, Kareem Alston of Albany was arrested on criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment charges. No injuries were reported in that shooting, per police.

The APD and the city will enlist the help of New York State Police and the Albany County Sheriff's Department to add patrols in the city.

"One shooting is too many, and the trend that we are experiencing is unacceptable and unbearable," Mayor Kathy Sheehan said in a statement early Wednesday evening. "Our residents deserve better, and our city deserves better."
