A total of 13 people were shot in five separate incidents in Albany between early Thursday morning and Thursday night, according to Albany Police. One person has died.

Police were called to Third and Quail streets to investigate a shooting around 4 p.m. Thursday. A 34-year-old man was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries shortly after arriving, according to Albany Police. Police spokesperson Steve Smith said this shooting was being invesigated as a homicide.

Also on Thursday afternoon, a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg on Westerlo and Grand streets. Most recently on Thursday night, officers are investigating a shooting in the area of 2nd and Judson streets after a man walked into Albany Med with gunshot wounds.

Overnight, officers responded to the 300 block of 2nd Street around 12:30 a.m. Thursday for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 52-year-old man shot in the shoulder.

Shortly after that call, hospital staff told police that a 31-year-old man had just entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police determined that he was also shot during the incident on 2nd Street.

Both men are currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police later responded to the area of Albany Street and Broadway around 1:50 a.m. Thursday for a shots fired call. There they found a 26-year-old man shot in the leg, and say seven others were shot when a car pulled up to a gathering and began shooting.

Authorities do not yet know if or how these incidents are related, but say this gun violence is a serious issue for the city.

“Year-to-date, we had nine shootings last year, we have 50 right now. So there is clearly issues going on amongst individuals who are settling their differences with gun violence, but we’ve also seen in some of these cases that innocent people including a 10-year-old boy have been injured as a result of these actions," Smith said earlier in the day when asked about the two overnight shootings.

The 12 other shooting victims had non-life threatening injuries, police said.

At this time, all five incidents are under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Albany Police Department at 518-462-8039.
