Arrests have been made after a Buffalo police officer and two New York State troopers were hit by a vehicle during a protest Monday night.

Police were lined up outside the department’s E-District headquarters on Bailey Avenue when a Ford Explorer drove through the blockade, striking a trooper and a Buffalo police officer, and running over another trooper on the ground.

New York State Police said Tuesday morning one trooper was treated at ECMC for a shattered pelvis and a broken leg.

The other trooper and Buffalo police officer were treated for minor injuries, according to state police. That trooper suffered a hand/wrist injury, was treated, and released. The officer was also treated and released, according to Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

State police released the names of the two members struck by the vehicle, tweeting the following:

“The more seriously injured, Trooper Ronald Ensminger Jr. is a 19-year-veteran of the NYSP. Trooper Randall Shenefiel, is a 17 -year-veteran of the NYSP. The investigation is ongoing.”

Troopers on the scene fired at the vehicle, according to state police. The vehicle was apprehended and the operator and occupants were taken into custody.

While taking the operator into custody, law enforcement observed a gunshot wound. One of the passengers had a gunshot wound, the other had no injuries, according to police.
