Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins met with members of the Guardian Angels group Tuesday morning.

Founder and CEO Curtis Sliwa says things went much better since the group's last visit to Albany last year, where they were met with some resistance during a violent summer. He also gave the chief high marks in the way his department is running.

"This year, it seems Chief Hawkins has a much better handle on the communty in terms of his interaction with everybody, good and bad, and so the environment is a lot less hostile than it was last summer," Sliwa said.

Hawkins said in part, “The meeting was cordial, but at this time, I cannot endorse their presence in the city. No agreements were made as a result of the meeting and will not be made unless several conditions are understood and met by the Guardian Angels."
