Brooklyn State Sen. Kevin Parker said he has what it takes to be city comptroller.

“I’m the only candidate that I think has the experience, the leadership and most importantly, the vision, to help this city come out of this pandemic economy,” Parker told NY1. “I’m the only one that you really can trust to bring back an equitable recovery to the city, to make sure that we properly reimagine the police department and invest not just in Wall Street, but in our schools.”

Parker said if he’s elected he’ll focus on building a clean energy economy that offers full-time jobs at a living wage with benefits.

But the candidate’s 18 years in the state senate could pose an obstacle. Parker has developed a reputation for being ill-tempered and shouting at some of his fellow legislators during confrontations.

He said that has all changed.

"Thank God people have the chance to grow and develop,” Parker said. “I'm not the same person I was 10 years ago. I hope none of us are, and we continue to elevate ourselves.”

“I wouldn't handle everything how I've handled them in the past, and I think that my record shows that, and I think the people see that I'm a legislator that has been very, very effective," he continued.

Parker joined “Mornings On 1” as part of a series of interviews with candidates for city comptroller.
