Jack Arpey was born in Saratoga Springs, New York and has spent his life getting to know the various corners of New York State from attending Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications, to reporting in Syracuse and Binghamton, toeven briefly living in New York City.
As multimedia journalist working for Spectrum News 1’s nightly political show, Capital Tonight, Jack is bringing hislifelong knowledge of the inner workings of Albany and New York State to the Capitol, where he first walked the Empire State Plaza 25 years ago with his parents, who still work in Albany to this day.
This role isn’t new for Jack, since as a reporter in Binghamton during the COVID-19 pandemic, his career was shaped by the urgent need for the press to play a vital role in communicating critical health information from local leaders to the public. In Syracuse, he covered the drive to revitalize Central New York with the announcement of Micron’s new semiconductor plant in the Town of Clay, as well as the proposed redevelopment of I-81 through the city.
Now, he is looking forward to covering the day-to-day work of state government, and illuminating how what happens in Albany impacts you.
In his free time, Jack enjoys working on carpentry projects and exploring New York State with his partner Brian. Whether finding the best restaurants at home in downtown Albany or taking road trips through the Finger Lakes or the Adirondacks, no weekend is wasted
