SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: To step into Tara Kitchen in Schenectady is to be transported through decor and traditional food to the North African country of Morocco.

The only Moroccan restaurant in the Capital Region restaurant started as a booth at the Schenectady Green Market. Owners Aneesa Waheed and her husband, Muntasim Shoaib, met and married in Marrakech, Morocco.

Aneesa says Tara Kitchen hovers somewhere between Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine. The food is cooked in traditional tagines and full of flavor from spices like garlic, paprika, cinnamon and more. Aneesa says the flavors are gentle without a lot of heat and nothing to be afraid of.

Tara Kitchen is located at 431 Liberty St. in Schenectady. It's open for lunch Tuesday through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and for dinner Tuesdays through Sundays 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., except on Fridays when the restaurant is open until 10 p.m.
