The U.S. Supreme Court concluded its 2021 term last month and the new justices on the court nominated by former President Donald Trump are leaving a mark, Albany Law Professor Vin Bonventre said in a Capital Tonight interview. 

The death of liberal Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and resignation of centrist Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy shifted the court in a new direction, Bonventre said. And yet, the court moved to once again uphold the Affordable Care Act, the signature health care law approved during the Obama presidency.  

But there are high-profile cases looming for the court in the coming months, including potential landmark decisions on abortion and LGBTQ rights ahead of the 2022 midterm elections with control of Congress at stake.

How the court rules in those cases could shape the lives of Americans for decades to come.
