OHIO — This day last year was much warmer and sunnier, but the nice weather isn't why April 8, 2024, was so memorable. 

Last year much of the state, and a large swath of the United States, fell in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse. Thousands attended watch parties for the event, bought out scores of viewing glasses and contributed to the local economy.

Northeast Ohio fell into the path of totality and saw cities preparing for hundreds of thousands of visitors.

According to Destination Cleveland, there was a total of $24.6 million in economic impact within Cuyahoga, Lorain and Lake counties as a result of 12 events hosted for the eclipse.

As the Cleveland Guardians prepare for their home-opener today, it will be hard to match the excitement of the home-opener occurring on the same day as an eclipse, like last year.
