Calling all runners and turkey trotters from across the Capital Region. There's two turkey trots happening on Thanksgiving morning to help you work up an appetite for later in the day.

The first event of the day is the 10K Troy Turkey Trot, which starts at 8 a.m., with the 5K beginning two hours later.

The race is the nation's 12th oldest turkey trot. It started in 1916 with just six runners.

It's obviously grown since then. More than 6,600 trotters participated last year.

A Saratoga County nonprofit is also getting ready for some running this Thanksgiving. The Christopher Dailey Foundation is preparing for its 23rd annual 5K Saratoga Turkey Trot.

Organizers say the trot is a fundraiser on behalf of the foundation, which offers support to local youth and family programs. The foundation is named in memory of 8-year-old Christopher Dailey, who died in 2001.

"Because I don't have as many memories of him, this foundaiton and this event, specifically, I get to spend a lot of time with friends and a lot of time with family," said Brendan Dailey, Christopher's younger brother and co-director of the foundation. "And it's great to do it all in his name and get to see his face on our T-shirts and on our all, all of the stuff around."

The 5K begins in front of Saratoga Springs City Hall at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
