New York state’s third recreational cannabis dispensary outside of New York City opened on Saturday.

Upstate Canna Co. is located in Schenectady.

As New York State's Office of Cannabis Management continues to roll out dispensaries across upstate, it might seem like a lot of time has passed since marijuana became recreationally legal, compared to the speed at which the dispensaries have been opening.

The opening of dispensaries in certain parts of the state was put on pause due to a lawsuit, but an important ruling this week may change all that soon.

The executive director of the Office of Cannabis Management, Chris Alexander, spoke to Spectrum News 1's Casey Bortnick about the holdup.

Alexander also discusses a realistic timeline for when Western New York, Central New York, the Mid-Hudson Valley and Brooklyn could see legal dispensaries up and running.
