The heavily traveled Sitterly Road Bridge in Clifton Park is set to close for the summer in two weeks.

The state Transportation Department said the bridge will close to traffic starting June 18 so workers can replace it.

The span was hit last year by a boom lift on a utility vehicle, causing major damage. Officials said they want to complete work on the bridge while schools are out for the summer.

A detour will be posted for motorists to use Clifton Park Center Road, along with State Route 146 and Route 9.

There will be a pedestrian shuttle offered from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day for people to get from the Ellis Medicine side of the bridge to the Crossing Boulevard side.

The bridge will re-open on Sept. 12, but officials said two more weekend closures are expected in the fall.
