While many people who have had COVID-19 are able to recover, it's not the case for all who no longer carry the virus.
Dr. Boris Shkolnik, a pulmonologist at Albany Medical Center, spoke with Spectrum News about its new clinic to help those long-haulers fighting COVID-19.
Shkolnik says the most common lasting symptoms they're seeing right now are chronic fatigue, severe brain fog, headaches, and a lot of shortness of breath.
What You Need To Know
- Study in JAMA says 10% of COVID-19 patients become COVID-19 long-haulers
- Albany Medical Center has started a post-COVID care clinic
- Chronic fatigue, brain fog, and shortness of breath are some of the most common symptoms for long-haulers
Shkolnik says while acute COVID-19 seemed to be impacting people with underlying conditions and pre-existing conditions more seriously, long-haulers are both people with and without pre-existing conditions.
He says Albany Med is researching and helping long-haulers, but there's no timetable for knowing when someone might recover, or how long their symptoms will last.
