An early morning fire in Delanson left several people without a home to start the New Year.

“We didn’t even have time to think or anything,” recalled Jillian Peacock. “Everyone told us to get out.”

Peacock was inside her first story apartment late Saturday night when her upstairs neighbor said her closet was on fire.

“Her house was completely filled with smoke, Peacock said. “Come back downstairs back into our house and noticed there was more smoke coming out of our wall.”

Peacock’s fiancé, James Folsom, was at work when the fire erupted.

"I didn’t really know if I heard her correctly at first,” he said. “I asked her and she said the house was on fire, the fire department is already there, so I told her I was leaving work.”

By the time Folsom arrived home everyone inside managed to escape safely along with four dogs.

Multiple fire departments responded and were able to knock down the fire. But a few hours later, Folsom says he saw more flames.

“It started coming out of the wall,” he said “They just shot up all the way to the top floor and started coming back and within five minutes the whole building was up in flames.”

The two-story home was reduced to a pile of rubble after the second round of flames. A nearby garage and car were also destroyed.

“We thought it was out and it ended up igniting again and this time for good,” said Peacock.

Folsom and Peacock will be moving in next door with family while several others are staying at a nearby hotel with assistance from the American Red Cross.

“I’m just glad that they worked as hard as they could, all the men and women to put it out,” said Peacock. “I’m grateful to them that they were able to and everyone is OK.”

Fire officials say the investigation is ongoing but it appears an electrical issue may have sparked the fire.
