Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are teaming with Representatives Antonio Delgado, Paul Tonko, and Elise Stefanik to introduce three pieces of legislation to increase the safety of stretch limos.
The measures would set a full slate of new federal stretch limo safety rules and regulations and close federal safety loopholes currently on the books.
This renewed effort comes more than a year after the deadly Schoharie crash that claimed the lives of 20 people.
The lawmakers say federal officials should not allow the victims of that crash to be forgotten and the only way to prevent future tragedies is by passing new legislation now.
