As we are learning more about Monday's fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Niskayuna, the people who knew the victim are remembering her.

According to New York State Police, the victim is 21-year-old Ayanna Hunter.

“Immediately, I broke down. My cousin on the phone with me broke down. The players broke down. It was just like it's impossible," said Antwan Morrison, Hunter's AAU coach.

Morrison says he got the phone call around midnight.

Hunter was a standout basketball player for her AAU team and at Albany High School, where she played point guard.

“You couldn’t tell her size. We called her the giant killer," said Morrison.

Sources tell us Hunter was shot in the chest at Hillcrest Village Apartments. Police arrived just before 8:30 Monday night, and Hunter was rushed to Ellis Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Spectrum News spoke to Morrison, her longtime AAU Lady Stars basketball coach, who says he got the call at midnight that his former player was killed.

Police say they don't have anyone in custody, and they believe the suspect is no longer in the immediate area.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Niskayuna Police Department.
