Lower State Street in the Electric City is quickly charging up as spring approaches.

Friday, Congressman Paul Tonko got an exclusive look at the redeveloped Mill Arisan District in Schenectady.

The $30 million project includes 74 residential apartments, a state-of-the-art brewery called Frog Alley Brewing, along with several retail spots, and academic spaces for SUNY Schenectady students.

J.T. Pollard, founder of Re4orm Architecture, which is developing the Mill Artisan District Project, says Frog Alley Brewing will be fully up and running by Saint Patrick's Day.

As for apartments and businesses like Bountiful Bread, Pollard says all of that will be completed by this summer.

“We started this project like three years ago; getting our arms around it then, assembling properties. [We] kinda thought a brewery would be a good idea down here to revitalize the area, create jobs, and just give people a fun place to go. It's also a true manufacturing facility in an urban fabric which is pretty exciting," Pollard said.

Jobs are another big part of the revitalization effort. Frog Alley Brewing says its expecting to employ 65 people for production and taproom operations.
