A blast from the past is coming out of the Hudson Valley that could someday wind up in your glass.

A team of biotechnology students at SUNY Cobleskill are trying to harvest yeast from a 133-year-old beer bottle.

The bottle was recently discovered from the site of an 1886 shipwreck.

Now Serious Brewing in Howe's Cave, and a team of biotechnology students and their professor from SUNY Cobleskill, are all teaming up to study the ancient brew in hopes of bringing it back to life.

“After 133 years at the bottom of the ocean, the cork was in pretty good shape. We took some samples, we took a lot of pictures. We are going to try and grow the yeast, to isolate the yeast..”

The beer was found on board the SS Oregon which came over from Liverpool to New York city and crashed off the coast of Long Island.
