The Town of Cairo is mourning the loss of 67-year-old Darla Vincent.

According to the Greene County Sheriff's Office, Vincent was struck by a vehicle on Main Street near Railroad Avenue on Thursday night.

The Sheriff's Office says drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors but a local business owner says poor lighting might be. Sheila Gallagher owns a tanning salon just feet from where the accident happened.

She says nearly a dozen street lights on Main Street are out, and visibility at night is poor.

“It was very nerve wracking this Halloween watching the kids cross the street and it was just so dark. We have our holiday 'Parade of Lights,' kids again all up and down Main street like I said. I don’t know whether this tragedy could have been prevented but I would like to see the lighting get better so we don’t lose anyone else in a situation like this," Gallagher said.

The Town of Cairo is holding a board meeting on the January 14. Gallagher says she and some of her customers plan on attending to bring up what she calls a poor lighting issue on Main Street.
