A family of five is displaced after a fire at their home in Selkirk.

Bethlehem Police say the two parents and three young kids made it out of their Trotter Road home safely.

They add the Albany County Sheriff's Department was able to help the family with gifts and clothes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and it doesn't appear to be suspicious, but officials are taking the time to remind people to be careful around the holidays.

"At this point it's way too early to say [Christmas trees] are not involved, but they are one of those things that come into play more over the holidays [as they] are even more flamable. Even the artificial ones, and that's why there's so much prevention towards those. And then you have everybody burning Christmas scented candles, and it's not a great combination with everything going on," said Bethlehem Police Commander Adam Hornick.

Police say the family is currently able to stay with relatives.
