Governor Cuomo wants to make sure no student goes hungry this school year. Wednesday, he announced $1.5 million will be awarded to 18 projects supporting farm-to-school programs across the state.

The Farm-to-School program increases the amount of locally grown and produced food in schools, improves student health, and educates kids about agriculture.

The $1.5 million will be used to hire Farm-to-School coordinators, train food service staff, provide nutrition education in classrooms and cafeterias, and more. It will serve more than 420,000 students from kindergarten through grade 12.

In the Capital Region, more than $97,000 is being awarded to Capital Roots, Inc.

Saratoga County is receiving more than $36,000 through the Cornell Cooperative Extension, and Warren County is receiving more than $93,000, also through Cornell Cooperative Extension.
