More people left New York State between July 2017 and July 2018 than any other state, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The Empire State was one of nine states (and Puerto Rico) that saw population declines in the time period, according to a bureau press release. New York, though, led the list, with 48,510 people leaving. Illinois was next on the list with a population loss of 45,116.
As of July 2018, New York's population was estimated at 19,542,209 people, according to bureau records.
Nevada and Idaho were the fastest-growing states, with both populations rising by a little more than 2 percent.
