TROY, N.Y. — New Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins continued his busy first weekend as the man in charge.

Hawkins and his wife hit the lanes in Troy Sunday for a good cause.

Traditionally, members of the Albany Police Department have participated in the annual New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association Bowl-A-Thon.

This year was no different.

The event, held at Uncle Sam Lanes in Troy this time around, raises money for the Center for Disability Services.

Organizers say the event is a way to honor the memory of Brian Viele, who was part of the center.

Chief Hawkins tells Spectrum News he continues to feel right at home in the Capital Region.

"For me and for my family, the thing we've taken away these first three or four days is the hospitality and the warmth of this community, they've really embraced us as we've come in as newcomers 500 miles away, and made it easier for me to do what I need to do in the Albany Police Department," said Hawkins.
