SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- For the third year, Tru Cutz in Saratoga Springs will be helping students get the school year started with a fresh look, offering free haircuts to students kindergarten through twelfth grade throughout Saratoga County.
“I’ve had parents literally cry in appreciation as to what we are doing. Those parents had to choose between a meal and getting their kids a fresh haircut," said Lamont Washington, the co-owner of Tru Cutz.
“We understand what that feeling is like. We just want to give kids confidence to let them feel good on the first day of school," said Henry Jenkins, also a co-owner.
Last year, barbers at the shop gave away just shy of 200 haircuts and partnered with a community member providing backpacks full of school supplies as well.
In 2018, they have the loftier goal of providing 300 free haircuts over the three-day period.
