SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Javier Castellano felt like he was just along for the ride Saturday evening at Saratoga Race Course.

Castellano rode Catholic Boy to victory in the 149th Travers Stakes, distancing the horse from Mendelssohn and Bravazo down the stretch to claim the win by four lengths in 2:01.94.

"It feels so comfortable on the horse, the way he's been training lately," Castellano said after the win. "I really like the horse. I think he [had] a great run today."

Catholic Boy -- with 8-1 morning-line odds -- won for trainer Jonathan Thomas, who previously trained Catholic Boy to a Grade 1 win in July's Belmont Derby.

"We've always believed that he's a top talent despite the surface," Thomas said. "He's a much stronger, mature horse and this really shows that patience helps."

"Jonathan, he did such a great job with the horse," Castellano said. "I give all the credit to him."

Good Magic, the morning-line favorite, and Wonder Gadot, the lone filly in the 10-horse field, finished in the back of the pack.

"He didn't break quite well; broke a bit slow," said Jose Ortiz, the jockey aboard Good Magic. "That messed up my plans, so I had to go to Plan B and I went a little wider than I wanted in the first turn, but then I tucked in and was hopeful he'd run good that way, but it didn't matter."
