Volunteers were out in Saratoga this morning, honoring fallen soldiers by cleaning headstones and placing flags on graves at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Over 2,000 headstones were given attention in honor of Memorial Day weekend.

Volunteers of all ages were out to honor both fallen family members, and heroes they never got the chance to meet.

For family members of veterans, memorial day is an especially emotional time, remembering their loved ones and the sacrifices they made.

''Freedom is not cheap. I know, I had a father and three brothers that were in the military, and I thank them every day for what they did for us," said Evelyn Carter, a volunteer.

Today's events were organized by Charter, the parent company of Spectrum News.
