CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- A new anti-drunk driving billboard along Route 9 in Clifton Park, designed by a Shenendehowa High School senior, was unveiled Monday as summer approaches.

The billboard shows the arm of a young person who's lying on the pavement next to a trail of blood, alongside the words "weekEND, drive sober."

Madison Hayes' billboard was chosen out of 55 similar designs from students in the school's three graphic design classes.

“I was hoping that people would be a bit shocked by it,” Hayes said. “I wanted people to think that’s not something typical that you would see on a billboard, because normally they are pretty happy. I want people to know this is serious.”

This is the 17th year Shen students have designed anti-drunk or distracted driving billboards.

In 2012, two seniors at the school, Christopher Stewart and Deanna Rivers, were driving on the Northway and killed in a crash caused by a drunk driver. Two other students were seriously injured.
