For the sixth year in a row, a Glens Falls non-profit organization is using Valentines Day weekend to help those battling cancer.
Saturday night, Lending Hearts and Hands hosted the "Cupid for a Cause" fundraiser at the Glens Falls Tower Event Center.
The sold-out event featured dinner, dancing, silent auctions, and door prizes, with proceeds going towards local people who have been diagnosed with cancer and need any financial help, they can get.
Besides the fundraising aspect of "Cupid for a Cause," organizers say another highlight is the wooden bear ceremony.
This is the fourth year the bear has been passed down to a new recipient.
Tom Ruffing’s wife, Jen, originally received the bear as a gift in 2012, during her long fight with cancer.
“It could mean the same for someone else," said Ruffing. "Knowing that theres love support and somebody else who had this bear knows exactly what it is theyre going through and I've talked to the ladies who’ve had this prior, having this in their house is just a memory that theres people who love them, support them, and want to help them out."
This year, the bear was handed down to a cancer survivor, and she will keep Jen’s bear until next year’s "Cupid for a Cause" fundraiser.
